Join Tama County Women, Land & Legacy for its upcoming event, “Organic Farming for Home Gardeners.” It will be held Tuesday at the Traer Public Library’s Kupka Cultural Center, 531 Second St. in Traer. Registration and dessert will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the event beginning at 7 p.m.
This event is free and open to the general public, both women and men. An RSVP is preferred by Monday by phoning (641) 484-2702, Ext. 305 or by emailing melody.bro@ia.nacdnet.net. Masks are optional but highly encouraged. Social distancing will be practiced.
Dan Fillius will be sharing his expertise on organic garden-scale food production. He is an Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach Field Specialist in commercial vegetables and specialty crops. Prior to joining the ISU Extension staff in 2018, Fillius managed the Student Organic Farm at Michigan State University and then spent four growing seasons as the Featherstone Farm Field Production Coordinator at Rushford, Minn.
Tama County Women, Land & Legacy began in 2007, part of a statewide USDA outreach project. This is the group’s 40th local event. Women, Land & Legacy currently is active in 34 Iowa counties and brings together Iowans interested in agriculture, local food and natural resources to converse, listen and become empowered for involvement on their landscape and in their communities.
