A mother and daughter duo who own a ladies only gym, have been keeping women, young and old, fit and healthy for 15 years. The gym based in Hucclecote, has clients on their books age ranging from 11 to 83 years old.
The team at Fitness 4 Females prides itself on looking after the individual and supporting each other through their journey. What the owners have come to love over time is the family feel the gym has and how they have been there to battle through some tough times together.
Owner Sarah Robert, 55 from Gloucester bought the gym in 2007 but found out shortly after she was pregnant. Then not long after Sarah had bought the business she was joined by daughter Rebecca Stroud-King, 29 who also lives in Gloucester.

While Sharon focuses on the gym and fitness side of the business, Rebecca works giving sports massage and treatments in a room in the building.
Sharon said: “I bought the gym back when I was 40 and little did I know at the time I was pregnant with my third child. Now he is 14-years-old and six feet tall and the members remember when h used to com to work in the car seat and be running about in his nappy.
“My daughter came to work with me after she finished her qualification in PE and psychology at school and completed her PT training at the same time. I tried to steer her away from the industry as it can be fickle but she was determined and came and joined me at the gym.”
They have had women join their gym from years ago now bringing their daughter to train. They also have a dedicated powerhouse Jill, who at 83 still trains at the gym up to four times a week.
Sharon said: “We have had some wonderful examples of what our gym has helped people to achieve. The women at the gym have helped us too.
“Six years ago my husband died, and everyone was so supportive to us. It felt like we had a family pulling together. During the pandemic we had many of our members deciding to keep paying membership fees each month because they wanted a gym to come back to.
“When you come to a class, we often talk about what is on the television. However there are times when a lady really has been having a hard day and we talk about that and it can turn into a counselling session.
“One of our members, Jill, is 83 and she is just amazing. She comes to the gym up to three or four times a week.
“Jill never forgets our birthdays and always gets us a card a puts a few pounds in there for the children. It is just lovely.”
The gym has recently been shortlisted for an award which is being held at Th Athena in Leicester on November 18.
