Free dance fitness event offered this weekend at Cole Auditorium – The Richmond Observer

HAMLET — Onequa Crump has a goal to “transform bodies one city at a time throughout the state” — starting in Richmond County.
Crump, a licensed fitness and dance instructor, is founder of the nonprofit Transcend 2 Transform Dance Fitness, and is hosting a free community fitness event at Cole Auditorium from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.
This will be the organizations inaugural “give back to the community event,” Crump said.
She has been teaching Zumba for eight years throughout the Carolinas and Georgia, but said “God laid it on my heart” that people shouldn’t have to pay to get fit.
“I just want to give the community something free, something where they can get educated …,” Crump added. “Getting in shape doesn’t have to be boring … By dancing, you can burn up to 1,000 calories in a one-hour dance fitness class.”
The dance fitness portion of the event will feature different genres — Motown, African fusion, twerk fit, toning and yoga.
Some instructors are coming from larger cities like Fayetteville and Greensboro. However, there will also be local instructors like Mary Kate Lambeth.
In addition to the dancing, there will be samples of healthy, nutritious foods — including juices and infused water — a relaxation station with massage chairs, personal trainers and a registered nurse in the lobby.
The event, Crump said, “gives people options to try to tap into different things and to learn different things, and to learn about being healthy and try different food that’s healthy.”
Crump said she plans to provide free classes each week, as well as make the community fitness event an annual happening.
