Ex-Chelsea striker a free agent
Former Atletico Madrid and Chelsea striker Diego Costa could be set for a return to the Premier League as he jets in for a trial at Wolves.
The 33-year-old has been without a club since leaving Mineiro in January and so could join the English side outside the transfer window as a free agent.
According to The Athletic, Wolves have turned to Costa because new signing Sasa Kalajdzic suffered an ACL injury on his debut against Southampton.
That leaves them with only Raul Jimenez as the only true No.9 in the squad, but he also picked up an injury on Saturday.
Costa, who was capped 24 times by Spain, was heavily linked with a move to Rayo Vallecano, but it now appears that he is due to travel to Wolverhampton on Tuesday so the club can run the rule over him.
After being out the game for eight months, Wolves have understandable concerns about Costa‘s fitness.
In the coming days he will undergo a medical and is expected to train with the team in a bid to prove his fitness.
If he can do that, this could be a sensational piece of business for Bruno Lage‘s team.
Costa is an experienced player and won the Premier League twice with Chelsea.
In his three seasons with the Blues, between 2014 and 2017, the Brazilian-born striker scored 59 goals in 120 appearances.
