Partnership
SIXT Thailand has introduced the first 100% electric vehicle (EV) – the Nissan Leaf – to its rental collection in Phuket.
Phuket, Thailand- InterContinental Phuket Resort, Thailand’s newest InterContinental resort, and SIXT Thailand have formed a pioneering partnership that will introduce a new era of sustainability and green mobility to travellers in Phuket.
SIXT Thailand has introduced the first 100% electric vehicle (EV) – the Nissan Leaf – to its rental collection in Phuket. This will enable domestic and international visitors to travel freely around the destination in complete comfort, safe in the knowledge that they are not producing any harmful emissions. With their sleek design, spacious interiors and generous 311km range, these all-electric family cars are the ideal option for responsible travellers.
To power this new fleet of EVs, InterContinental Phuket Resort has installed a series of EV charging stations, which are fully compatible with the Nissan Leaf and other electric cars. Conveniently located at Kamala Bay on Phuket’s popular west coast, these stations will offer fast charging for hotel guests, other visitors and local residents alike. A total of six EV charging points – four AC stations and one1 DC station with two chargers – have been available ever since the resort opened its doors.
Mr. Bjorn Courage, General Manager of InterContinental Phuket Resort and President of the Phuket Hotels Association, explained that this cooperative arrangement between two prominent companies formed part of a broader strategy to support sustainable living and promote green transport in Phuket.
“This partnership highlights how InterContinental Phuket Resort is acting today for the future benefit of all. I am pleased that SIXT Thailand has the same vision as us; by being the first car rental company to bring EVs to Phuket, they are displaying a strong commitment to the local community. We are very happy to work together with SIXT Thailand to help preserve Phuket and protect our planet for future generations,” said Mr. Courage.
“We are delighted that InterContinental Phuket Resort is our new sustainability partner. By offering multiple EV charging stations at the resort, guests can quickly and conveniently charge their SIXT rental car and ensure a pleasant trip in Phuket. InterContinental’s responsible mindset is fully aligned with our own vision and commitment to creating a zero-emission environment. We are pleased to be working with such a high-calibre company,” added Mr. Pumon Somdee, General Manager of SIXT Thailand.
To celebrate this new arrangement, every customer who rents a Nissan Leaf from SIXT Thailand and uses InterContinental Phuket Resort’s EV charging stations will be invited to the hotel’s Devas’ Lounge for a complimentary cup of coffee or tea and a delicious piece of cake. This enticing offer is available from now until 31st December 2022.
InterContinental Phuket Resort is fully committed to helping to shape the future of travel and making a positive difference to local communities. The resort has been certified as a LEED GOLD hotel, under the globally recognized certification programme from the U.S. Green Building Council, and is involved in multiple environmental projects and policies, such zero single-use plastic, waste separation, recycling, and food waste reduction. It is also a long-term and main sponsor of the “License To Clean” project, an eco-friendly coastal cleaning catamaran operated by the Oceans For All Foundation, which collects all floating trash from Kamala Bay.
Moving forward, InterContinental Phuket Resort will continue to support its people and make a positive difference to local communities while preserving our planet’s beauty and diversity. This mission is not just for today, but for long into the future.
