Teen Sentenced To 3 Years For Firing Gun In North Babylon Gym: DA – Patch

NORTH BABYLON, NY — A Wyandanch teenager who fired a gun at an LA Fitness was sentenced to three years in prison in criminal court on Tuesday, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced.

Noah Haynes, 19, was also sentenced to three years of post-release supervision after he pleaded guilty in May to second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He also received an indeterminate sentence of one to three years of incarceration for also pleading guilty to first-degree reckless endangerment, according to the Honorable Judge Anthony S. Senft, Jr.
On December 21, 2021, he got into an altercation with a 17-year-old inside an LA Fitness located at Deer Park Avenue in North Babylon, according to an investigation and Haynes’ admission.
Haynes, who was 18 at the time, slashed the 17-year-old on the neck with a sharp object. While inside the crowded gym, Haynes pulled out a loaded Glock .380 caliber firearm, prosecutors said. Numerous witnesses — including a retired NYPD detective — wrestled Haynes to the ground. Haynes’ gun was pushed down so that he could not shoot at people in the gym.
But the loaded gun fired a single shot at the ground as it was wrestled away. Ultimately, it was removed from his hand, prosecutors said.
The gun was turned over to police. Haynes was also found with a magazine that had twelve rounds inside, prosecutors said.
“This defendant decided that violence was the best way to win a dispute with his victim and he acted on his violent impulse in a crowded public area, which put others in danger,” said Tierney “This type of behavior will not be tolerated in Suffolk County and the consequence of his reckless actions is upstate prison time.”
