Whether you’re looking to refresh your dining area, carpeting your entire house, or tracking down exciting lighting and accessories, you’ll surely be inspired by their room sets and ranges.
As well as offering such a striking choice when it comes to your home, what also stands out about Rodgers is that they do as much as they can to operate in an environmentally way. They adopt a proactive approach to recycling – whether that’s all paper, cardboard and plastic packaging, through to bigger elements like recycling furniture and carpets collected from customer’s homes as part of their service – minimise landfill waste (just 15% of their waste goes to landfill), and also work in partnership with York Community Furniture Store, donating furniture to help those most in need.
Their environmental approach extends to the brands they feature, and here we pick out five that truly highlight how being sustainable does not impact on quality of design.
ULSTER CARPETS
Ulster Carpets are the manufacturers of high quality wool carpets. Wool is classed as a rapidly renewable material – wool fleece is regrown in 12 months, providing a sustainable supply of high quality raw material.
Most of Ulster’s ranges are a blend of 80% wool and 20% nylon yarn, and they have a 100% natural un–dyed wool range called Natural Choice, developed to minimize the impact on the environment, yet suitable for heavy wear applications. They also produce a quality underlay called Axfelt Triple Layer Underlay, made from 100% recycled materials including old carpets and rubber tyres. Good for the environment, but also for you: wool carpets improve air quality, thermal insulation, and boasts anti-allergy properties.
WOODPECKER FLOORING
The manufacturers of the finest wooden floors, all of Woodpecker Flooring’s wood is sourced from responsibly managed sustainable forests and is fully certified to the highest standards. They also offer a range of bamboo floors, the most sustainable choice that grows even faster after cutting and regenerates every five years.
Woodpecker are committed to becoming the first carbon negative flooring company by 2030, and they are also creating the Woodpecker forest of tomorrow, planting 50,000 saplings over 200 acres around their home in South Wales
STRESSLESS
To Stressless, being green is much more than a claim – it is a way of life.
The Norwegian company manufactures elegant sofas and chairs. They re-use materials to cut back on the need for additional resources, such as using the European beech for chair bases. The excess wood chips are collected and burned to produce the heat used in their factory and offices, and scrap leather is collected and sold to companies who make smaller leather products.
Sustainable materials are sought, and they only use water based paints and lacquers. When purchasing a Stressless product you are investing in comfort, but are also making a sustainable and responsible choice – their products are so well made they will last a lifetime.
VENJAKOB
This company are a leading manufacturer of high quality living room and dining furniture. As a sustainable company, economy and ecology are of equal importance. Venjakob believe sustainability begins with design, therefore they strive for a timeless creation.
Venjakob was one of the first companies in the furniture industry to voluntarily offset its emissions fully in accordance with the ‘Clean Development Mechanism’. Wood used is from hand-picked suppliers, their furniture is naturally finished and they contribute to the replanting of local deciduous forests.
HYPNOS
This bed manufacturer puts sustainability at the centre of everything they do, from the use of renewable natural resources to carbon offsetting progammes.
They are the first carbon neutral bedmaker in the world, and have held this prestigious title for a decade, as well being holders of the Queens Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development.
All their beds and mattresses are completely recyclable, and they work hand in glove with the Red Tractor organization, Better Cotton Initiative and Cotton Connect.
Timber used for their bed bases is from managed sustainable forests, and they were the first bedmaker to comply with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
