Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin said during a press conference the suspect, identified as Michael Louis, had purchased an AR-15 style firearm around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, and police received the first reports of the shooting at 4:52 p.m.
A handgun found also at the scene had been purchased on May 29—three days before the shooting, Franklin said.
Tulsa Police Department Deputy Chief Eric Dalgleish said during a Wednesday press conference the suspected gunman, believed to be between the ages of 35 and 40, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Tulsa Police responded to a report of a person with a gun at St. Francis Hospital just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Dalgleish. Responding officers arrived within minutes and found the gunman dead as they worked to clear the Natalie Medical Building, a physicians’ office facility, Dalgleish said. The shooting in Tulsa comes just over two weeks after an 18-year-old man allegedly walked into a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, and killed 10 people in what authorities have called a racist attack, and just over a week after a gunman killed 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
